Software Installation #

Installing through the Windows Installer Interface #

  1. Double click the OpenitLauncherServer_x64.msi file to start the installation.
    A setup wizard will be displayed. Click Next
  2. Read the License Agreement carefully before accepting the terms. Click Next to continue.
  3. Use the default drive or specify the desired directory. Click Change and specify new directories. Otherwise, click Next.
  4. Provide the TCP port number or leave the default value, 80, as is. Click Next to continue
  5. Click Install to start the installation process. If a review of the entries is needed, click Back.
  6. The installer will set up all necessary files on the computer. Click Finish after complete installation.

Installing Through the Command Line #

  1. Open a command prompt with Administrator privilege.
  2. Execute the following command:
    >msiexec /i [msi_file] /l*v [log_file] [options]
    Required:
    /i [msi_file]
    The path of the Windows installer file, OpeniTLauncher-[Architecture].msi.

    /l*v [log_file]
    The path of the installation log file that will be created during installation.

    Options:
    /quiet
    Run the command in silent mode.

    /passive
    Run the command in unattended mode – progress bar only.

    Note: The installer will use the Windows Installer Interface process when the installation option is not specified.

  3. When using the passive mode,wait until the process bar dialog disappears.When using the quiet mode, verify if the installation is complete by opening the Task Manager and checking in the Details tab if the msiexec process is still running.

Software Installation Verification #

Verify Created Directories and Files #

Go to the $ROOT_DIR of the installation located, by default, in C:¥Program Files¥OpeniT¥Launcher and verify that the following directories and files exist:

  • Data – contains database files
  • Log – contains troubleshooting logs created by the Open iT Launcher binary
    This directory and its contents are sent to the OpeniT Support whenever an issue occurs and logging should be enabled upon doing so.
  • wwwroot – contains files used by the web application
  • appsettings.json – this file contains application settings for web access and authentication
  • OpeniT.Launcher.Web.exe – the Open iT Web Launcher application executable
  • web.config – this file contains specific configuration for web service

Verify Web Site #

Follow these instructions to launch a configured application for a specific project:

  1. Open IIS (Internet Information Services) in the machine with the Open iT Application Launcher Server.
  2. In the Connections Pane, expand the root node and Sites.
  3. Make sure that the Open iT Launcher Server is present.
  4. Click the Open iT Launcher Server website, and in the dashboard, double click Authentication.

Software Post-Installation Configuration #

Adding Administrator Accounts #

  1. Go to the $ROOT_DIR of the installation located, by default, in C:¥Program Files¥OpeniT¥Launcher.
  2. If appsettings.Override.json does not exist, create a copy of the file appsettings.json and name it as appsettings.Override.json; otherwise, open the file.
  3. Look for the “Administrators” line and add the user(s) account in the list enclosed with double quotation marks and separated by comma.
    "Administrators": [ "HOSTNAME¥¥user", "user@email.com", "DOMAIN¥¥user" ]
    Note: Make sure to use double backslash (¥¥) when using Negotiate and providing a valid email address or Okta account when using Saml2.
  4. Save the changes.

Web Interface Access #

After a successful installation, the web interface should be accessible.

Accessing the Web Interface #

Follow these instructions to access the web interface:

  1. On a browser, go to http(s)://AppLauncher_hostname:port_number.
    Use http(s)://localhost: when accessing in the host machine.
    Where:

    • AppLauncher_hostname – the machine name where Open iT Application Launcher server is hosted
    • port_number – the port number provided during the installation and will be used in the web service. The default value is 80.
  2. When accessing for the first time or incognito, a prompt for credentials should appear.
  3. Provide the Active Directory or local user credentials and click Sign in.

    The Home page should be displayed.

Setting Authentication Method #

By default, the authentication method used is Negotiate which uses Windows Authentication. The system supports Negotiate and Saml2 (used by Okta) authentication method.
Follow these instructions to switch between the two methods:

  1. Go to the $ROOT_DIR of the installation located, by default, in C:¥Program Files¥OpeniT¥Launcher.
  2. If appsettings.Override.json does not exist, create a copy of the file appsettings.json and name it as appsettings.Override.json; otherwise, open the file.
  3. Look for the “AuthenticationMethod” line and set the value to Negotiate or Saml2.
  4. When set to Saml2, look look for the code block Saml2.

  5. Log in to Okta account to get the IdPMetaData and Issuer details.
  6. In the left pane, expand Applications and click Applications. This lists all the available applications.
  7. Click the created application for Open iT Application Launcher. In this case, Open iT Web Launcher.
  8. Click Sign On tab and right click Identity Provider metadata link.
  9. Choose the Copy link address option and go back to appsettings.Override.json file to paste the copied link address to IdPMetadata. “IdPMetadata”: “https://dev-4993452.okta.com/app/exk3yqx70D3dvBp475d6/sso/saml/metadata”,
  10. Go back to Okta application and click General tab.
  11. Under the SAML Settings copy the value of Audience Restriction.
  12. Go back to appsettings.Override.json file and paste the value in Issuer.

  13. Save the changes.

Downloading Application Launcher Client #

Follow these instructions to download the Application Launcher client installer:

  1. Click the drop-down beside the username then select Download Client.
  2. The client installer file will be downloaded automatically.
