Automating Licensing Optimization Helps Avio Achieve a 47% Reduction in Yearly IT Costs

"Open iT Solutions Address the Different Sides of IT Infrastructure Optimization."

Highlights

  • As the company grew, Avio realized that their existing solution for tracking software usage was insufficient.
  • With Open iT’s LicenseAnalyzer Level 1 and ComputeAnalyzer, Avio was able to detect both active and inactive application usage by metering the company’s software and hardware usage.
  • The company used Open iT software on multiple license servers and was able to achieve a 47% reduction in yearly IT costs.

Business Overview

Avio, a global leader in the aerospace industry with 5000 employees, develops and delivers subsystems and components to major international aeronautical, military, civil and space programs. See how their trial of Open iT software yielded a high return on investment, with a 47% cost reduction on the annual IT costs for one of their most expensive engineering applications.

Business Challenge

As the company expanded, Avio Aero’s existing commercial solution for tracking software usage could no longer meet its cost and functional requirements. The team needed a more flexible and scalable approach to software asset management—one capable of delivering deeper analytical insight and supporting multiple license managers such as FlexNet and LUM.

After evaluating several asset management solutions, Avio Aero selected the Open iT platform to gain accurate, data-driven visibility into license usage across its engineering environment. The implementation included LicenseAnalyzer Level 1, Level 3, and ComputeAnalyzer modules, which were deployed across selected computers and workstations. These modules utilized a centralized database on a dedicated server to collect and consolidate usage data from various software license managers.

Government, aerospace, and defense engineering organizations rarely operate within a single, unified network environment.  Most operate across intentionally segmented environments built to meet strict security, regulatory, and mission requirements. These may include enterprise IT networks, isolated engineering subnets, classified and air-gapped systems, GovCloud deployments, and regional installations with restricted or intermittent connectivity.  Open iT, a certified GSA contract holder, has supported federal agencies

The Federal CIO Reality: Leading in a $6 Trillion IT Market with Flat Budgets

Federal CIOs are being asked to deliver more technology capability than ever before—AI adoption, zero-trust security, legacy modernization, cloud optimization, and data-driven decision-making—often without meaningful increases in funding.  At the same time, global IT spending is projected to exceed $6 trillion in 2026, according to Gartner. That figure dominates industry headlines and vendor conversations, but for federal IT leaders, it
