Plant & Process Design (EPC)

On a consumption plan there is no seat to hand back, only a meter you cannot see.

Open iT meters AVEVA E3D and PDMS, Hexagon SmartPlant and Siemens COMOS by consumption, not just by checkout, including AVEVA’s token model, where a session bills from first use until midnight. See the bill forming through the month, and forecast demand up to several months out, so you staff up and demobilize an EPC project without carrying a peak that is already over.

An EPC project staffs up to a peak, then demobilizes. On a consumption plan the meter keeps running long after the work is gone.

Plant and process design increasingly runs on consumption, not seats. On AVEVA’s token model, elapsed time is measured from first use until midnight, so a session opened after lunch and left running bills a full token day whether or not anyone is at the keyboard. There is no idle seat to hand back. There is a meter, and by month-end it is a number on an invoice.

Buy for the peak and you carry it into the next renewal. Buy for the average and the next mobilization is short-handed. Without a forecast, both mistakes are expensive.

The vendor’s invoice arrives once the month is already spent, so the token time lost to idle sessions is paid for before anyone sees it, and the only question left is how big next quarter’s bill will be.

How much token time is burning with nobody at the keyboard?

For AVEVA token licenses, elapsed time runs from first use until midnight. A session opened after lunch keeps counting long after the designer has gone home. Enter your teams to see how much of that elapsed time is idle.

Days on which each user opens at least one token session.

Elapsed hours per user per day = 24 − first-use time. Idle hours = elapsed − hands-on hours. Monthly = idle × users × working days. 12-month = monthly × 12.

For AVEVA tokens, elapsed time is measured from first use until midnight (Open iT terminology definition of Elapsed Time).

A calculator shows what your assumptions imply. Open iT shows what actually happened: AVEVA Cloud usage is collected per user and per host, polled hourly at 5-minute samples, so you can see which sessions ran to midnight. docs.openit.com — AVEVA Cloud

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Can Open iT meter AVEVA’s token model?

Yes. Elapsed time is measured from first use, and for AVEVA tokens that runs until midnight. Per-application and per-user reporting shows the consumption behind the bill as it accrues.

How far ahead can Open iT forecast demand?

LicensePredictor projects usage up to 18 months ahead, per application, which is the window most EPC procurement and renewal planning runs on.

Can you reclaim seats on a consumption plan?

On token and consumption models the main lever is visibility: cutting the idle time that bills. Where seats run on a supported manager, such as AVEVA E3D and PDMS or FlexNet-based tools, idle seats can also be suspended and resumed.

Which plant applications are supported?

AVEVA Cloud (E3D, PDMS), SmartPlant License Manager (SPLM), Siemens Automation License Manager (COMOS) and AutoCAD Plant 3D (via the Autodesk connector) are metered in v10.2; AVEVA E3D and PDMS are in the Level 3 test record. CAESAR II is not yet confirmed.

Right now an AVEVA session someone opened after lunch is still billing toward midnight, and next quarter’s mobilization is being planned on a guess. Aibel made its consumption visible and recoverable and pushed utilization past 99%. Open iT gives you the same live meter before the next invoice instead of after it.
