CAD & PLM

Open iT cannot harvest a CATIA seat. Here is what it can do instead.

DSLS doesn't support suspend and resume, so nobody can hand an idle CATIA license back to the pool. What Open iT gives you is the concurrency, elapsed-time and denial record a Dassault renewal turns on.

  • Records ready inside the three-day window your agreement sets
  • Concurrency and denial evidence across the DSLS pool
  • Every DSLS server in one console

Every vendor in this category implies it can harvest everything. On DSLS that isn't true, and you find out during the pilot.

Dassault’s license server reports concurrent usage, elapsed time, denials, real-time status and autodetect. What it doesn’t support is Level 3 suspend and resume, which runs on FlexNet, LM-X, RLM and IBM LUM only. On a CATIA, SOLIDWORKS or Simulia estate the recovery lever isn’t there. Any vendor who tells you otherwise hasn’t tested it on your license server.

What is there is better evidence than most CAD estates have ever taken into a renewal. Denials show where the pool is genuinely short rather than where people complained loudest. Twelve months of concurrency shows the peak you need to fund rather than the headcount you licensed. And the Dassault agreement prices being unprepared: records within three business days of a request, machine access with audit-tool execution within two, and a shortfall above five percent shifts the cost of the audit onto you.

DSLS Renewal Evidence Pack

Build the concurrency and denial summary your next Dassault renewal needs, from your own numbers. A few questions show which parts of your renewal argument you can evidence today.

1. Your DSLS estate

Which Dassault products sit on this pool? (optional)

The entitled quantity you are defending.

2. What the pool actually does

The highest number in use at the same time.

Roughly what is in use mid-week, mid-afternoon.

This decides whether it survives contact with a vendor.

3. Denials

The files named LicenseServer…log and TokenUsage…log.

4. The renewal

Business days to produce records on request. Check your executed agreement.

Enter your seats and peak

Peak as a share of entitlement

Typical day as a share of entitlement
–
Peak above a normal working day
–

Two numbers are enough to show where you stand: the seats you are licensed for, and the most that were ever in use at the same time.

The four questions a renewal asks

Comment ce chiffre est-il calculé ?

Everything here is arithmetic on what you entered. There are no benchmarks, industry averages or assumed figures.

    • Headroom = licensed seats − peak concurrent use. A negative number means the peak ran above entitlement.
    • Peak as a share of entitlement = peak ÷ licensed seats. The typical-day share uses the typical figure in the same way.
    • Peak above a normal day = peak − typical concurrent use.
    • The four questions: “How many at once?” and “What did the worst day look like?” are covered when your peak comes from continuous metering. “For how long?” needs metering. “Who went without?” needs denials recorded in retained logs.
    • History you can still build = months to your renewal date, up to 12.

    What this will not do

DSLS does not support suspend and resume. No tool can take an idle CATIA seat and hand it back to the pool. Suspend and resume exists on some other engineering license managers, but it is not available on the Dassault license server.

Everything in this pack is a measurement and evidence argument, not a recovery one. That is the honest position on a Dassault estate, and it is a stronger one than it sounds: most CAD renewals are argued on seat counts and anecdote, and concurrency and denials are neither.

Data types and collection methods are named in the Open iT DSLS documentation.

Figures are calculated from the values you entered. They are a structured version of your own estimates, not measured data. A utilization snapshot replaces them with records from your DSLS servers.

    Questions fréquemment posées

Can Open iT harvest idle CATIA licenses?

No. DSLS doesn’t support suspend and resume, so no tool can return an idle CATIA seat to the pool. Open iT reports concurrency, elapsed time and denials from DSLS instead, which is what a renewal argument is built from.

Then what does Open iT change on a Dassault estate?

It replaces the seat count with a demand curve. You go into the renewal knowing your true concurrent peak, which programs drive it, where denials happened, and how long sessions really run.

Does Open iT cover SOLIDWORKS and Simulia?

Yes. Both are licensed through the DSLS family and metered the same way as CATIA.

What about Siemens NX, Teamcenter, PTC Creo, Windchill and Cameo?

Coverage depends on the license manager in your environment. Confirm each one with us before you scope the project rather than assuming it from a supported-applications list.

Harvesting is the wrong question on DSLS. The right ones are what your concurrency curve says at renewal, and whether you can produce records in three business days. Open iT answers both, and tells you plainly where it stops.
