Subsea & Offshore

When offshore teams span time zones, harvest only when they overlap.

Open iT meters OrcaFlex and your offshore structural tools across sites and partners, and recovers idle seats during the overlapping hours when demand actually collides.

Offshore engineering is global project work, but a shared pool is busiest only where the time zones overlap.

A subsea or offshore-wind project runs across offices in different countries and often across partners, all drawing from one license pool. Demand collides in the few hours when those time zones overlap, which is when denials happen. Outside that window, seats sit idle in one region while another sleeps. And when a project ends, its seats keep renewing.

Open iT meters usage by site and project and can harvest idle licenses specifically during the overlapping hours, so a seat freed in one region covers demand in another. This is the approach a leading oil, gas, and offshore-wind service company used to avoid denials and defer buying extra licenses for the busy window.

A leading oil, gas, and offshore-wind service company harvested idle licenses only during overlapping hours, avoided denials, and deferred buying extra seats for the busy window.

How this is calculated

Overlap fraction = overlapping hours / 24. During the non-overlap window, roughly (regions minus 1) of every region’s share of the pool sits idle in sleeping regions. Average shareable seats = seats × (1 minus overlap fraction) × ((regions minus 1) / regions). Annualized value = shareable seats × annual cost per seat, representing seats you could reallocate or avoid buying. With one region, nothing is shareable.

All inputs are yours. Open iT measures the real usage-by-site pattern once connected.

For planning discussion only. A simplified model of a distributed pool. Active work is never harvested; actual results depend on measured usage by site and project.

Questions fréquemment posées

Can Open iT harvest only during certain hours?

Yes. Recovery can be enabled for specific windows, such as the hours when your time zones overlap and demand collides.

Is OrcaFlex supported?

Yes. OrcaFlex from Orcina is on the confirmed supported list.

Can it track usage across partners and locations?

Yes. Usage is reported by site and project across a distributed team.

Does harvesting interrupt active work?

No. Only idle seats are recovered, and sessions resume where they stopped.

Your license pool is global, but the crunch is local to a few overlapping hours. Open iT harvests exactly then, so a seat idle in one region answers a denial in another, and no project pays to hold seats it finished with.
