Petroleum Engineering
One integrated model can hold half your Petroleum Experts suite at once.
Open iT meters real usage across PROSPER, GAP, MBAL, PIPESIM, and OLGA, so you can see which suite components a workflow actually uses and stop paying for the rest.
- See per-component use across the Petroleum Experts suite
- Separate integrated-model holds from real work
- Right-size flow-assurance tools used only in bursts
Integrated asset modeling checks out a chain of tools together, then works one at a time.
Petroleum engineers rarely open a single tool. An integrated production model links PROSPER, GAP, and MBAL, and a study will check out the whole chain at once even though the engineer is working in one component at a time. Add PIPESIM and OLGA for flow assurance, opened intensely during a design phase and quiet afterward, and a large share of the suite is held rather than worked.
License servers see every held component as fully used, so the suite looks fully subscribed and renews at that level. Start from your annual Petroleum Experts and flow-assurance spend, and let Open iT show which components carry the real demand and which ride along in the bundle.

Petroleum Experts Suite Utilization Breakdown
An integrated model checks out several suite components at once, but works one at a time. See which pieces carry the demand and which ride along idle.
Suite components
Idle cost by component
estimated recoverable spend per year across the suite
- Total annual suite spend
- $0
- Held but not actively used
- $0
How this is calculated
For each component: annual spend = seats × annual cost per seat. Held-but-idle = annual spend × (1 minus active share). Recoverable = held-but-idle × the recoverable share. Totals sum across components. Active share is your estimate of how much of a component’s checkout is genuine use; Open iT measures the real figure per component.
For planning discussion only. Actual recoverable spend depends on measured per-component usage and contract terms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Open iT meter the full Petroleum Experts suite?
Yes. PROSPER, GAP, and MBAL are metered through the PetEx license manager, and PIPESIM and OLGA are metered through FlexNet.
Will it show which suite component is actually being used?
Yes. Usage is reported per component, so a held bundle is distinguishable from real work.
Does recovering a seat interrupt a study?
No. Active work is never suspended. Only idle, held components are recovered.
What about flow-assurance tools used only sometimes?
Concurrency over time reveals the real peaks, which is where seat sharing and right-sizing apply.
You are probably paying for a full suite so that a few engineers can run one component at a time. Open iT breaks the bundle down to what actually computes, so your next renewal fits the model, not the habit.
