On February 13, 2014, students from across the Bicol region filed into Bicol University to compete for a computer programming title — the kind of event where the next generation of software engineers gets a first taste of professional pressure. AMA Legazpi won by solving six problems with 514 penalty minutes, the kind of margin that gets noticed by employers. Open iT sponsored the competition and planned to offer employment opportunities to the winners, treating the partnership as both recognition of computer coding's role in global innovation and a practical pipeline into the next stage of their careers.
OPEN IT PHILIPPINES – The BUCPC (Bicol University Computer Programming Competition) held its annual contest last February 13, 2014. This Open iT-sponsored event is hosted by Bicol University which aims to highlight the role of computer coding in driving innovation around the globe and to focus public attention on the next generation of young computing professionals. College students from various schools participate as they compete in solving computing problems prepared by the board of judges headed by the staff of the Bicol University College of Science.
This year, the winning team of this prestigious competition is from AMA Legazpi. They were able to solve 6 problems with 514 penalty minutes. It’s the second time that AMA Legazpi got the top spot in the Albay-wide Computer Programming Competition.
