When it comes to computer-generated imagery (CGI) and 3D computer graphics and visualization rendering engines, V-Ray is one of the top choices. V-Ray is the main product of the Bulgarian company Chaos Group, which was established in Sofia in 1997. Headed by company chief architects Peter Milev and Vladimir Koylazov, the company focuses on helping artists and designers in media, entertainment, film and video game production, industrial design, product design, and architecture to achieve the best computer graphics and visualization. Some of the studios using V-Ray are Method Studios, Digital Domain, Zoic Studios, Bardel Entertainment and Pixomondo.
V-Ray supports a number of 3D applications, including Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Revit, Cinema 4D, Autodesk Maya, Modo, Nuke, Rhinoceros, SketchUp, Katana, Unreal, Houdini, Blender, and many more.
Licensing Scheme
Chaos Group offers both perpetual and rental (subscription-based) licenses, the latter is available in either monthly or annual recurring payments.
The Chaos Group also offers its own License Server, which is a flexible and reliable license management tool that provides the convenience of activating Chaos Group products for use wherever the customer needs them. It enables the customer to use the product offline or without internet connection through license borrowing for a fixed period of 14 days. Furthermore, the License Server also supports dongle licensing, which utilizes USB dongle containing Chaos Group product licenses.
The License Server also has its own web interface and command line interface for ease of product usage and license management. Within the web interface, it is possible to browse and sort through all the Chaos Group licenses and check for availability. The command line interface or the License Server Controller, on the other hand, has various commands for license management.
Although the web interface of the License Server can be useful in monitoring license availability and usage of V-Ray products, having more information for more in-depth usage analysis would always be better. Necessary license usage information, such as what time the licenses were in use, for how long, and who used them, would greatly help in managing these valuable product licenses.
Open iT LicenseAnalyzer supports license usage data collection from the V-Ray License Server. LicenseAnalyzer collects data from the License Server, processes it, and generates valuable and reliable license usage reports from the processed information.
Vital usage reports, such as License Usage per User, License Usage per License Category (Online/Offline/Dongle), License Usage per License Server, License Usage per License Type (Interface/Render), Maximum Available Licenses, and many more, can be generated for deeper analysis and better decision making.
