Dassault Systemes (3DS) provides specific pricing structures for its products.
The pricing structure is the basis of the specifications of a license, such as duration and support conditions. It is indicative of what is written and agreed in the license contract.
The pricing structures of 3DS licenses include:
- PLC – Primary License Charge. This is a one-time and non-refundable charge that provides the customer with a perpetual license to use the release of a 3DS product/feature made available by 3DS on the effective date of the license.
- TBL – Term-Based License Charge. This is a one-time and non-refundable charge that provides the customer with a license for a period as described in the product portfolio and in the transaction document to use the release of a 3DS product/feature made available by 3DS on the effective date of the license. “TBLx” is a TBL for a period of “x” years, e.g. “TBL3” is a TBL for a period of three (3) years. TBL is not automatically renewable.
- ALC – Annual License Charge. For the first year of each license of each 3DS product/feature, ALC is due together with the PLC or TBL, as applicable, and entitles the customer to support services for one year and a license to use the release of said 3DS product/feature made available by DS during the said year, in lieu of the license(s) on the previous release(s) of the 3DS product/feature delivered to the customer. The applicable price for the ALC for any given year is the price of the previous year plus the last percentage of increase applicable to the license of a 3DS product/feature in a given country, as published on the 3DS pricing page at least ninety (90) days before renewal date. However, such increase shall not exceed the increase which would have resulted from the revision of the price of the ALC according to the applicable price index since the date of the last price increase published by 3DS for the related 3DS product/feature.
- YLC – Yearly License Charge. This is a yearly charge that entitles the customer to a one-year use of a license for a release of a 3DS product/feature and its subsequent release(s), if any, as made available by 3DS during the year, in lieu of the license(s) on the previous release(s) of said 3DS product/feature. It also includes support services for one year. The applicable price for the YLC for any given year is the price of the previous year plus the last percentage of increase applicable to the license of a 3DS product/feature in a given country, as published on the 3DS pricing page at least ninety (90) days before renewal date. However, such increase shall not exceed the increase which would have resulted from the revision of the price of the YLC according to the applicable price index since the date of the last price increase published by 3DS for the related 3DS product/feature. Support services may not be terminated without terminating the license of the 3DS product/feature.
- QLC – Quarterly License Charge. This entitles the customer to a three-month use of a license for a release of a 3DS product/feature and its subsequent release(s), if any, as made available by 3DS during the said three months, in lieu of the license(s) on the previous release(s) of said 3DS product/feature. This also includes support services for the three-month period. QLC is not automatically renewable. Support services may not be terminated without terminating the license of the 3DS product/feature
Basically, pricing structure signifies how a license is charged when used. Moreover, it is possible to have various licenses with different pricing structures for different usages, which gives the administrator the ability to efficiently use the licenses within the organization, through the in-house license manager of 3DS, which is the Dassault Systemes License Server (DSLS).
DSLS is a powerful license manager that provides various functionalities and capabilities in managing licenses of Dassault Systemes (3DS) software applications.
It gives the user the ability to set up the licenses based on various criteria, such as costs and pricing, to avoid over-usage or misusage of expensive licenses. One of its functionalities is configuring licenses with pricing structures.
The DSLS R2017x GA (6.419.0 – September 29, 2016) release introduced the support for setting the authorization rules depending on the pricing structure written in the license.
In the authorization tab of the License Administration Tool, pricing structure was added as a criterion for allowing or prohibiting users in using the license.
For instance, the organization can allow only prioritized users to use licenses with TBL and allow all other users to use licenses with PLC. This is to prevent high-cost licenses from being overused.
The capability to report the usage of features with specific pricing structure is very useful for decision making with regard to license inventory and optimization.
Open iT® Enterprise Edition supports the reporting of 3DS pricing structures through DSLS. Users can now see the specific pricing structure of a feature and even see the specific users using the feature.
